Francisco, CA February 25, 2002 - NetChip Technology Inc, a leader in
Hi-Speed USB 2.0 semiconductors, announced the availability of the world’s
first Hi-Speed USB 2.0 PC to PC network solution in a reference design
platform, TurboCONNECT 2.0. This solution enables two or more Hi-Speed USB 2.0
equipped PCs to connect to each other using USB ports as a network and have
data rates up to 480Mbps, almost five times faster than a conventional 100BT
Ethernet network. With the complete capability of a computer network,
users can share files, disk drives, printers and any other PC peripherals.
Also, users can transfer gigabyte files from one PC to another within seconds,
ideal for computer back-up, synchronization, file sharing, or diagnostics.
NetChip is performing a live demo at the conference during the technology
showcase (USB-IF pavilion and Booth #430).
“The simplicity of TurboCONNECT 2.0 and USB takes the fear out of home and
SOHO users who want to set up a computer network, or transfer files between
PCs”, says Robert Wong, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at NetChip.
“As with the standards of USB, TurboCONNECT 2.0 is simple with plug and play
operation. Unlike a normal Ethernet setup, there is no need to open the PC,
install an add-in card, connect to a hub or router, and go through a complex
software installation procedure”. TurboCONNECT 2.0 represents NetChip’s
second generation product for USB host to host network. NetChip has been the
provider of USB 1.1 host/host networking chips, TurboCONNECT NET1080, for
leading manufacturers such as Belkin and Laplink.
TurboCONNECT 2.0 is a reference design platform based upon NetChip’s NET2270
Hi-Speed USB 2.0 peripheral controller chip. NET2270 was the world’s first
product of its kind to be logo certified and had been featured in various
keynote addresses of events hosted by Intel and Microsoft worldwide. You can
find NET2270 in majority of the Hi-Speed USB 2.0 printers, scanners and PC
peripherals. NetChip offers the reference design kit as a development
tool for OEMs to take to manufacturing immediately. The kit will include
an evaluation unit, complete schematics, Gerber and layout files, BOM, test
utilities, all relevant drawings, custom installation software, complete
software drivers and license agreement.
The TurboCONNECT 2.0 reference design kit is available now for OEM licensing.
NET2270 controller is in mass production.
